Sirona Technologies and Cella Launch Project Jacaranda

Project Jacaranda represents a significant pilot initiative in the carbon removal landscape. Launched by Sirona Technologies and Cella, the program is situated in Kenya's Great Rift Valley at Lake Elementaita. It integrates direct air capture (DAC) with geological storage through carbon mineralization.
Project Jacaranda taps Sirona Technologies' DAC technology, which uses a solid-sorbent process to capture CO₂ directly from the atmosphere. The captured CO₂ is then handled by Cella, which injects it into the region's basaltic rock formations. This process — known as in-situ carbon mineralization — triggers a natural chemical reaction where the CO₂ converts into stable carbonate minerals, ensuring permanent carbon storage.
Project Jacaranda is reportedly the fastest DAC pilot deployment globally, a feat achieved through Sirona Technologies' strategy of mass-producing modular, containerized DAC units.
