Verified Carbon and Return Carbon Debut Wind-Powered Direct Air Capture Hub

Return Carbon and Verified Carbon are developing a wind-powered direct air capture hub in Tom Green County, Texas. Referred to as Project Concho, this initiative will operate entirely on electricity generated from a newly constructed wind farm, to be built and managed by the renewable energy producer Greenalia.
Project Concho will utilize DAC technology supplied by Skytree, which features a modular design intended for scalability. The initial phase aims to capture 50,000 tons of atmospheric carbon dioxide annually before the year 2030, with a long-term objective of expanding capacity to 500,000 tons per year. The integration of a dedicated renewable energy source directly addresses the major criticism of DAC — its high energy consumption. The CO2 captured by the wind-powered direct air capture hub is planned for permanent subsurface storage within the region.
