Atelier Gardens Contains Bio-Based Finishes
Debra John — March 3, 2026Atelier Gardens demonstrates a comprehensive commitment to environmentally responsible design through the integration of bio-based finishes and regenerative building strategies. The project prioritizes renewable, low-impact materials that reduce embodied carbon while promoting healthier indoor air quality. In addition, these bio-based finishes are selected for durability and lifecycle efficiency, supporting long-term resource conservation.
Furthermore, the development extends its sustainability approach to the rooftop, where MVRDV in collaboration with Hirschmüller Schindele Architekten introduced a cross-laminated timber (CLT) pavilion. By utilizing mass timber, the structure lowers carbon emissions compared to conventional construction methods. At the same time, the transformation of the previously unused rooftop into a landscaped garden enhances biodiversity through the incorporation of native plant species.
Moreover, integrated rainwater collection systems capture and reuse precipitation for irrigation, thereby reducing water consumption. Collectively, these strategies reinforce the project’s holistic environmental performance and urban ecological resilience.
