PLP Architecture Incorporate the 'Butterfly Effect' in Singapore

PLP Architecture has incorporated environmentally conscious design principles into Park Nova, a luxury residential development on Tomlinson Road in Singapore. Drawing inspiration from the historic orchard landscape of the area, the architects introduced a “butterfly effect” through outward-curving balconies and terraces that integrate extensive greenery into the building’s form. This approach enhances natural shading, reduces heat gain, and increases opportunities for passive cooling, contributing to improved energy efficiency across the tower.

A key element of the design is the expansion of planter zones—extended by up to three meters with approval from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). These enlarged planters support substantial vegetation, enabling the building to function as a vertical garden that strengthens urban biodiversity and improves local air quality.

By blending architectural expression with biophilic and climate-responsive strategies, Park Nova demonstrates how residential high-rise design can promote ecological performance within a dense urban environment.
