Bio-Based Glycolic Acid Ingredients

Avid Organics, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals based in India, is preparing to launch AviGa Bio HP70 at the in-cosmetics Global trade show in Paris, marking what the company describes as the world's first commercially scalable bio-based glycolic acid.

The AviGa Bio HP70 is a 70% cosmetic-grade solution derived entirely from plant-based feedstocks. The innovation offers an alternative to conventional glycolic acid, which has historically been manufactured from fossil fuels through a process involving formaldehyde carbonylation. Avid Organics emphasizes that AviGa Bio HP70 maintains the high purity standards required for personal care and pharmaceutical applications while minimizing trace contaminants often associated with petroleum-derived versions.

Avid Organics uses manufacturing infrastructure powered by renewable energy to produce the new bio-based glycolic acid version. The business is also supported by REACH registration for European markets.
