Fermentation-Based Soap Bars

Palm oil offers numerous benefits to skin and enhances solid soap bar formulas but raises environmental and social concerns, leading Colgate-Palmolive and NoPalm Ingredients to explore fermentation-based soap bars as an alternative. This multi-year partnership exploring oil alternatives means that NoPalm Ingredients will incorporate fermentation-based oil from upcycled agrifood side streams into Colgate-Palmolive’s product formulations.

Already, Colgate-Palmolive and NoPalm Ingredients successfully co-developed the first soap bars made with fermentation-based oil, a high-quality, circular ingredient produced by fermenting upcycled side streams that's stable and delivers the desired texture and fragrance compatibility with much less environmental impact.

Now, the next phase is beginning: testing NoPalm Ingredients’ fermentation-derived oil at a pre-industrial scale. Ultimately, the aim is to prove that the fermentation-based oil matches or surpasses the performance of conventional oils used in personal care.
