Compostable Plant-Based Furs

At Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton unveiled its Fall/Winter 2026 collection featuring a novel material developed by biomaterials startup BioFluff, which works with plant fibers like hemp and nettle.

Leading luxury houses are stepping away from animal fur not just in response to mounting ethical and regulatory pressure, but because a new generation of plant-based alternatives now offer the richness and tactile sophistication their customers expect, without the cost to living creatures. BioFluff's Savian Naturals sets itself apart from many plant-based faux fur materials by being a plastic-free, biodegradable, and compostable alternative to animal fur that's available in a wide range of textures. As part of its Fall/Winter 2026 runway show, Louis Vuitton showcased a vest featuring the Wolfy Savian texture.
