A strategic partnership has been formed between Michigan Audubon and the Ford Motor Company to expand the Bird City Michigan initiative, a program that guides municipalities in adopting practices beneficial to avian populations.

As the founding sponsor of the Bird City Michigan initiative, Ford is providing financial backing to scale the program across the state. The support includes stipends of up to five thousand dollars to "help fund bird conservation projects for communities across the state where it has operations."

The Bird City Michigan program itself is structured around a set of science-based criteria that encourage participants to engage in activities such as managing non-native plant species, mitigating nocturnal light pollution, incorporating indigenous flora into landscaping, and conducting public education campaigns.
