BlueWave Energy is Advancing Agrivoltaic Farming in Massachusetts
Colin Smith — June 12, 2025BlueWave has initiated a portfolio of agrivoltaic projects in Massachusetts that employ a dual-use solar design under the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program. The projects, which encompass approximately 19.8 MW_DC of generation capacity along with 29.7 MWhr of storage, are being developed across multiple locations, including Palmer, Haverhill, Dighton, and Douglas. These installations are structured to integrate solar energy production with agricultural land use while contributing clean energy to the local grid.
The agrivoltaic approach adopted by BlueWave is designed to enable the continued use of agricultural land by permitting uninterrupted farming operations and supporting livestock grazing beneath the solar arrays. In collaboration with local farmers, the company has ensured that the project designs accommodate various agricultural practices, thereby providing benefits to both energy generation and rural community economic stability. This integrated model supports state renewable energy initiatives while maintaining productive use of agricultural resources.
