Cement Carbon Capture Projects

Holcim Romania is expanding its cement carbon capture efforts with a new project, Carbon Hub CPT01, supported by the EU Innovation Fund to reduce emissions from cement and lime production.

In partnership with Belgian company Carmeuse, the project will capture CO₂ from industrial sites in the Câmpulung region and prepare it for permanent storage. The use of a shared system across multiple facilities is designed to improve efficiency and support larger-scale carbon capture deployment.

Cement and lime production generate CO₂ as part of their core processes, making emissions difficult to lower through other methods. Capturing these emissions allows production to continue while limiting the amount of CO₂ released.

Projects like this show how carbon capture systems can be applied in high-emission areas to support lower-emission industrial production.
