The non-profit organization Cool Effect is initiating a promotional drive titled 'Before You Pack, Give Back.' This initiative aligns with the post-Thanksgiving 'Giving Tuesday' and 'Travel Tuesday' observances. It encourages individuals to counterbalance the environmental impact of their journeys.

Cool Effect's 'Before You Pack, Give Back' centers on a digital tool that allows users to compute the estimated carbon emissions from various forms of travel, including flights and hotel stays. The non-profit then encourages individuals to "offset their carbon footprint and fund clean cookstoves for families in Honduras and Guatemala through Proyecto Mirador."

To support its initiative, Cool Effect cites a recently commissioned survey indicating that a significant majority of U.S. travelers would be willing to participate in carbon offsetting if the procedure were straightforward and inexpensive, with many respondents suggesting a willingness to contribute an amount less than the price of a typical airline beverage.
