Pollination Insight Enhancement Projects

Dole UK x AgriSound Aim to Advance Fruit Farming
Georgia Wray Norsten — June 16, 2025Dole UK x AgriSound have partnered on a groundbreaking pilot study to enhance pollination insights and optimize fruit production. Launched in April 2025 at Dole’s Charlton site, the initiative leverages AgriSound’s Polly sensors to monitor bumblebee activity within various polytunnel environments. The study compares traditional covers with advanced IYRIS SecondSky materials to examine how microclimates influence pollinator behavior and ultimately affect fruit yield and quality.
By capturing real-time pollination data, the project aims to deepen understanding of how environmental variables impact both ecological health and commercial outcomes in fruit agriculture. As sustainability takes center stage in the UK food sector -- with over £800 million invested in R&D between 2021 and 2022 -- this pilot reflects a forward-thinking approach to integrating agri-tech innovation with ecological stewardship.
Results from the trial, expected by October 2025, could inform industry-wide practices and inspire scalable solutions across the sector.
