Ampaire Inc. has reached a regulatory milestone with the Federal Aviation Administration's issuance of a G-1 Issue Paper for its AMP-H570 hybrid electric aircraft propulsion system. This action by the FAA establishes the specific airworthiness and environmental criteria that the system must meet to eventually receive a Supplemental Type Certification, which would authorize its installation on existing aircraft models.

Ampaire's AMP-H570 electric aircraft propulsion system is described as a parallel hybrid configuration, akin to that used in some automobiles. This means that the battery can be recharged during flight, thereby eliminating the necessity for ground-based charging stations.

Ampaire's AMP-H570 is designed as a retrofit solution, intended to be installed on current airframes without requiring major modifications to the aircraft or supporting infrastructure. The company reports that in testing, an aircraft equipped with this system demonstrated a significant improvement in fuel efficiency compared to conventional propulsion.
