Electric Bus Propulsion Systems

Allison Transmission & the Maryland Transit Administration Partner

Allison Transmission has announced a collaboration with the Maryland Transit Administration, which has chosen to incorporate New Flyer buses with the Allison eGen Flex® propulsion system to serve the Baltimore area.

The agreement involves New Flyer manufacturing 40-foot buses integrated with Allison Transmission's specific electric hybrid technology. The eGen Flex system is described as incorporating geofencing capability, a feature that automatically enables zero-emission electric-only operation when a bus enters pre-defined geographical areas. This functionality is intended to yield significant decreases in tailpipe emissions and operational noise, particularly in sensitive zones like city centers or residential areas. The system is also claimed to improve fuel efficiency by up to twenty-five percent compared to traditional diesel-powered buses.

The partnership with Allison Transmission is a practical step for transit authorities seeking to make immediate progress toward environmental objectives.
