Fervo Energy is Targeting Responsible Growth with Pact
Colin Smith — October 25, 2025The Geothermal Sustainable Development Pact launched by Fervo Energy establishes a framework of operational and social commitments intended to guide the company’s geothermal project development toward reduced environmental impact and strengthened community outcomes. Key elements of the pact include commitments to comprehensive environmental monitoring and mitigation, water‑management protocols, seismic risk monitoring and response plans, protection of biodiversity and cultural resources, and defined decommissioning standards to restore sites at the end of their operational life.
The pact also formalises social and governance measures such as structured community consultation, transparency in reporting and permitting, prioritisation of local employment and contractor opportunities, and mechanisms for benefit‑sharing with affected communities and Indigenous stakeholders, while encouraging industry collaboration to scale best practices across the geothermal sector. Fervo positions the document as both an internal operational standard and a model for wider adoption, linking responsible project execution with long‑term viability for geothermal development.
