Global Women in Clean Energy (GWiCE) is a fellowship initiative launched by RMI designed to support early- to mid-career women working in the clean energy sector, with initial cohorts focused on regions including Africa and Indonesia. The program combines cohort-based leadership training, technical and policy skills development, and tailored mentorship to strengthen participants’ capacity to design, implement, and scale clean energy projects. GWiCE emphasizes practical outcomes by linking fellows with local stakeholders, providing project-based learning opportunities, and facilitating peer networks intended to sustain professional collaboration beyond the fellowship period.

The fellowship aims to address gender imbalances in energy-sector leadership and to accelerate localized clean energy deployment by equipping women leaders with access to technical resources, policy knowledge, and financing pathways. Program elements commonly include workshops on project finance and regulatory frameworks, mentorship from regional and international experts, and support for fellows’ action plans or pilot projects that align with national energy transition priorities. Organizers position the initiative as a mechanism to increase diversity in decision-making, foster inclusive energy solutions, and cultivate a pipeline of women leaders able to influence clean energy policy and implementation at local and national levels.
