Yamaha Corporation has entered into a collaborative arrangement with Overseas Traders, a supplier of Indian rosewood based in India, with the objective of advancing the sustainable management and preservation of this specific forest resource.

The cooperative effort between Yamaha and Overseas Traders is structured around establishing a responsibly managed supply chain for Indian rosewood, extending from its origin in the forest to its final application in manufactured goods. The entities have embarked on a joint research and development program focused on the conservation of the species, which will include practical activities such as reforestation trials.

The partnership with Overseas Traders is an extension of Yamaha's broader 'Otonomori' environmental program, which addresses widespread concerns regarding the diminishing supply and deteriorating quality of various tonewoods, which are essential for musical instrument production. Indian rosewood is a particularly crucial material for the construction of acoustic and electric guitars, but its natural regeneration in its native habitat of southern India has been insufficient.
