Collaborative Park Designs

The Parc des Gorilles in Montreal represents a distinctive public space project that was recently recognized with the prestigious Award of Excellence by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) for its innovative approach.

Developed on a former industrial corridor where railway infrastructure was previously situated, the Parc des Gorille is the result of a sustained initiative by local residents who organized to influence the site's future. The design process involved a collaborative method that integrated community input with professional expertise from landscape architects and environmental consultants.

In its final form, the Parc des Gorilles boasts extensive native planting, a system for managing stormwater through natural filtration, and a central gathering space featuring a pavilion constructed from materials that reference the area's industrial heritage. Additional amenities such as a secluded contemplation area and artistic installations are positioned along a primary pathway that follows the historical trajectory of the former rail line.
