Solar Access Solutions
Octopus Energy became the first major U.K. supplier to roll out Octopus Energy Plug-In Solar kits, letting renters, flat-dwellers and homes without suitable roofs generate their own electricity without traditional rooftop installation. The kits start at £450 for a one- or two-panel setup and connect via a standard three-pin plug, with no professional installation required.
The 460-watt panels can be wall- or floor-mounted, capture sunlight from both sides and let customers track generated electricity through the Octopus app. Households could save up to £150 depending on sunlight levels and usage, with two-panel systems paired with a smart export tariff potentially paying back their cost in five and a half years.
Octopus's plug-in approach signals how accessible, renter-friendly solar technology could extend clean energy savings to households traditionally excluded from rooftop solar.
