Sustainable Water Efforts
Botanica Successfully Implements its Reclaimed Water Project
Debra John — December 3, 2025Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, has announced the successful implementation of its 'Reclaimed Water Project,' a sustainability initiative that demonstrates how public institutions can reduce environmental impact through innovative resource management. Designed to capture and repurpose reclaimed water for landscape irrigation, the project represents a significant advancement in Wichita’s broader approach to water conservation and responsible resource use.
The initiative not only achieved its initial conservation objectives but surpassed them, ultimately saving an additional two million gallons of water beyond original projections. Prior to deployment, all reclaimed water underwent comprehensive testing to ensure full compliance with quality and safety standards for irrigation. Following approval, "the system began delivering reclaimed water across more than 20 acres of gardens, enabling Botanica to maintain healthy, thriving landscapes while substantially reducing its dependence on treated municipal water."
The project stands as a model for sustainable operations in public gardens and similar community spaces.
