Solar-Powered Senior-Focused Hub
RoseVilla Senior Living Debuts Its Solar-Powered Resilient Hub
Kalin Ned — November 20, 2025RoseVilla, a nonprofit senior living community in Portland, Oregon, recently completed a new infrastructure project — a solar-powered resilience hub.
The facility is dubbed ROSE Port, and it is characterized as a multi-functional hub designed to provide operational self-sufficiency during emergencies. Its engineering incorporates seismic resilience standards intended to maintain structural integrity following significant earthquakes. The unit's energy system combines a rooftop solar array with a battery storage unit, which enables the generation and retention of electricity to power essential small devices — such as medical equipment and communications tools — during a grid failure. The solar-powered resilience hub also boasts large cistern that collects and purifies rainwater through filtration and ultraviolet light.
For the construction of this project, RoseVilla utilized sustainably sourced materials, including mass timber, to reduce its environmental impact, and the site also features electric vehicle charging stations.
