Metal Logic's New Smelting Platform is Modular and Scalable

Metal Logic has announced the acquisition of a site in Western Australia's Pilbara region for the initial industrial-scale implementation of its modular iron ore smelting system. The company describes its approach as a 'smelting as a service' model. It is designed to be deployed in scalable arrays, with a planned initial capacity of one million tonnes per year.

Metal Logic claims that its smelting system achieves high thermodynamic efficiency. The technology is purported to make the processing of lower-grade iron ores economically feasible, thereby potentially extending the operational life of existing mines and allowing the exploitation of mineral deposits currently considered stranded or uneconomical.

The strategic rationale behind this initiative is to alter traditional steel value chains by situating processing facilities closer to mining operations.
