Ameresco launched a $10 million school energy infrastructure project across three schools in the Mount Sinai School District on Long Island, installing rooftop solar PV arrays, full LED lighting replacements, high-efficiency transformers and upgraded digital energy management controls. The project also includes a fuel oil-to-natural gas conversion at the district's elementary school, structured as an energy performance contract running through the end of 2027.

Beyond infrastructure upgrades, the project incorporates STEM programming that gives students and technology teachers hands-on access to live energy data from the new systems, exposing them to potential career paths in engineering and the trades. The district expects significant long-term operating cost savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Ameresco's project shows how energy infrastructure investments can deliver both operational benefits and educational opportunities for local communities.
