The UKGBC Launched a New Collaborative Environment Initiative
Colin Smith — August 30, 2025Scaling Sustainable Solutions for the Built Environment is a UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) initiative launched on 20 May 2025 to accelerate the uptake of proven sustainable technologies and practices across the built environment. The program addresses the “valley of death” between research and widespread deployment by targeting issues of pilotisation, where solutions remain in trial phases and fail to scale across assets, projects and portfolios. By leveraging UKGBC’s cross-sector network and trusted position among developers, contractors, asset owners and local authorities, the initiative combines targeted matchmaking, new research into scaling barriers and the sharing of practical learnings from live projects to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation.
In its first year, the initiative will provide a matchmaking service that connects solution providers with adopters through curated introductions, events and webinars. It will conduct new research to identify systemic and practical obstacles to scaling sustainable solutions and propose actions to overcome these impediments. Additionally, UKGBC will compile case studies from live projects to capture real-world deployment insights and disseminate best practices. Industry stakeholders—including innovators, adopters and enablers—are invited to engage with the initiative and contribute to a more sustainable built environment at scale.
