The WA Table Lamp breathes new life into discarded hand straps from Tokyo’s Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line 8500 series, transforming them into a refined lighting piece. Created by Akasaki & Vanhuyse, each lamp is built from nine sandblasted resin rings that once served as commuter grips. The surface retains scratches and patina, preserving the material’s lived history while shifting its function from transport utility to domestic illumination.

A polished stainless steel frame holds the rings in a stack, leaving narrow gaps that emit a warm, ambient glow. Limited to 150 handmade editions, the lamp emphasizes both heritage and sustainability through recycled parts and durable construction. Stainless steel legs provide stability and recyclability, while the local assembly process minimizes transport impact. The WA Table Lamp embodies nostalgia and sustainable design, merging industrial character with thoughtful craftsmanship in a collectible object.
