Visual Waste Characterization Features

Mill, a technology company known for its intelligent food recycling systems, is developing a new feature called the Gemini-enabled visual waste characterization system. This development is meant to enhance the company’s high-capacity food recycler, Mill Commercial.   Mill’s waste characterization feature uses integrated computer vision, powered by advanced access to Google’s Gemini AI models, to identify and classify food scraps at the exact moment they are discarded. The system tracks what’s being thrown away, in what amounts, and for what reason. The resulting data is then translated into practical procurement and operational insights for large-scale food service operators.

In essence, Mill Industries helps these entities understand waste patterns in real time. Instead of merely recording that food was wasted, the system can reveal whether certain menu items consistently lead to leftovers, whether portion sizes are too large, or whether specific ingredients spoil before use.
