Westfalia Fruit Partnered with AgroSustain on Crop Plan

Westfalia Fruit and AgroSustain have progressed a multi‑year collaboration to evaluate and commercialize AgroSustain’s edible bio‑coating, Afondo, for fresh produce, initially focusing on avocados and limes. Trials conducted in Colombia, Chile, and Peru demonstrated that Afondo can reduce post‑harvest fungicide use by at least 50 percent and materially decrease supply‑chain waste, with treated fruit subsequently shipped to Westfalia’s operations in Europe.

Following successful pilot work, Westfalia has commenced commercial trials with selected customers and is assessing broader market expansion across Europe, emphasizing compatibility with existing packing‑line equipment and minimal operational disruption when planned in advance. AgroSustain and Westfalia have signaled continued collaboration to optimize supply‑chain integration and to introduce a bio‑coating formulation for organic crops, while Afondo’s applicability across multiple fruit categories presents opportunities to extend shelf life and lessen chemical residues for growers and distributors.
