Amcor Partnered with Alter Eco on New Recyclable Solution
Colin Smith — February 4, 2026Amcor has partnered with Alter Eco to develop a recyclable, paper‑based packaging solution for Alter Eco’s 200 gram chocolate bars, replacing the previous cardboard sleeve and inner aluminium foil wrap to reduce packaging weight by 61% while retaining a premium appearance. The collaboration uses Amcor’s paper packaging technologies, described as AmFiber Performance Paper, and is intended to align the product exterior with Alter Eco’s organic and sustainability credentials. The initiative targets markets where paper recycling streams exist and aims to reduce single‑use plastic and foil components in confectionery packaging.
The project is positioned to support Alter Eco’s sustainability objectives and to help meet evolving regulatory requirements on packaging and recyclability in the European market. Key operational considerations include local recycling infrastructure, material performance for barrier and shelf life, and supply chain adjustments for converting to paper‑based formats. Amcor and Alter Eco report the redesign preserves tactile and visual quality while lowering material mass, but successful outcomes will depend on consumer acceptance, verification of recyclability in target jurisdictions, and ongoing assessment of packaging performance across distribution and storage conditions.
