Aurora Expeditions Introduced its 2027-2028 Antarctica Program
Debra John — November 15, 2025Aurora Expeditions has launched its 2027–2028 Antarctica program with a clear emphasis on reducing environmental impact and supporting long-term conservation of the polar region. The program will "utilize the company’s purpose-built vessels—the Greg Mortimer, Sylvia Earle, and the newly launched Douglas Mawson—all equipped with advanced technologies designed to limit ecological disturbance." These include fuel-efficient engines, low-emission operational systems, and comprehensive waste-management mechanisms that help protect the sensitive Antarctic environment.
The initiative highlights several sustainability measures intended to reduce the carbon footprint of polar travel. Shore-power capabilities, energy-efficient navigation, and optional carbon-offsetting programs support emission reductions throughout the voyage. In addition, onboard education programs encourage travelers to adopt responsible practices, reinforcing awareness of Antarctica’s unique ecosystems.
Through these combined efforts, the 2027–2028 program aims to promote environmentally conscious exploration while contributing to the preservation of Antarctica’s pristine landscapes and vulnerable wildlife habitats.
