The Expedition Cruise Network Conference Focuses on Sustainability

The Expedition Cruise Network (ECN), founded in 2023, is redefining how travelers experience the planet by championing expedition cruising as a more sustainable and environmentally mindful alternative to traditional mass-market cruises. Unlike mega ships that deliver thousands of tourists to vulnerable coastlines, expedition vessels are smaller, purpose-built, and guided by experts, minimizing ecological impact while deepening travelers’ understanding of the environments they explore.
Once limited to the Arctic and Antarctic, these journeys "now reach a wide range of delicate and biodiverse ecosystems — from the Amazon and Galápagos Islands to the Nile, Danube, and remote island habitats." Each voyage emphasizes education, scientific insight, and conservation awareness, encouraging travelers to become active stewards of the natural world.
Through its annual conference, ECN works to "expand the reach of this growing sector, advancing responsible tourism, biodiversity preservation, and climate-conscious exploration on a global scale."
