Vietnam Introduces a Zero Waste Tourism Network
Debra John — July 26, 2025Vietnam has launched the 'Vietnam Zero Waste Tourism Network' (VZWTN), a national initiative aimed at aligning the country’s rapidly growing tourism industry with its environmental and climate goals. Supported by both local and international conservation organizations, the network is designed to reduce waste generation, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and encourage sustainable travel practices across the tourism sector.
At the core of the initiative is a strong commitment to "eliminating plastic waste and promoting responsible resource use, as Vietnam works toward achieving its Net Zero 2050 climate target." Through collaboration with tourism businesses, local authorities, and environmental groups, VZWTN will provide tools, guidance, and a shared platform to help tourism stakeholders adopt low-impact, eco-conscious operations.
This initiative marks a significant step in harmonizing economic development with environmental protection, positioning Vietnam as a regional leader in green tourism and a global example of how travel can be both enjoyable and environmentally responsible.
