Bio-Based Gel Polishes

Bio-based gel polishes are expanding plant-derived materials into beauty products traditionally reliant on petroleum-based ingredients. Green Science Alliance developed a gel nail polish made with plant- and biomass-derived materials, with its current formula containing approximately 22% to 25% biomass components. The polish is also formulated without TPO, HEMA and TMPTA, ingredients that have faced regulatory or safety concerns in some markets.

Developed by Dr. Hirotoshi Umemoto and Dr. Ryohei Mori, the formula combines alternative material sourcing with ingredient-conscious nail care. Green Science Alliance plans to increase the percentage of biomass-derived components while expanding the product domestically and internationally. For beauty brands, this approach demonstrates how material substitution can differentiate familiar cosmetics without changing their core use. As ingredient regulations and consumer expectations evolve, plant-derived formulations could help manufacturers reduce dependence on petroleum-based materials while adapting products for multiple global markets.
