Bio-Enhancing Concrete Mats

Bio-enhancing concrete mats are combining infrastructure protection with marine habitat support through a partnership between ECOncrete and Submar. The companies are integrating ECOncrete’s patented bio-enhancing technology into Submar’s articulated concrete revetment mats, which protect shorelines, pipelines, subsea cables, and offshore energy assets from erosion. Following a two-year collaboration that produced more than 1,000 mats for marine projects, the technology will now be manufactured and distributed more broadly across Gulf Coast and offshore markets.

The approach expands the function of traditional concrete armoring by designing infrastructure that can also support marine organisms and local habitats. For coastal authorities, energy companies, and infrastructure developers, combining erosion control and ecological considerations within a single system could simplify project planning while addressing environmental requirements. The partnership also gives ECOncrete a scalable manufacturing and distribution channel as investment in coastal and offshore infrastructure continues to grow.
