Self-Sealing Concrete Repairs
Penetron is strengthening power infrastructure with a crystalline concrete repair system designed to extend structural durability at Greece’s Komotini Thermal Power Plant. Applied to cracked cooling tower pedestals, the Penetron System uses materials that react with moisture to form insoluble crystals within concrete pores, capillaries and hairline cracks. This process reduces permeability and supports self-sealing performance over time, helping protect the structures against water ingress, corrosion and further deterioration. The system also remains active within the concrete throughout the structure’s service life.
For power plant operators, longer-lasting concrete repairs can reduce recurring maintenance requirements, material use and operational disruptions. Penetron’s combination of waterproofing, crack injection and repair materials also supports faster work during restricted maintenance schedules. Similar systems could provide infrastructure operators with a cost-effective way to extend existing asset lifespans rather than undertaking more extensive structural replacements.
