Evonik has introduced Trogamid R, a clear polyamide made from recycled plastic waste generated during eyewear production. To achieve this, Poliplastic SRL collects scrap shards from optical and sunglass lens manufacturing, reprocesses them into granules, and uses them to produce new eyewear frames in the Nylo Zero Milano and Roma series.

Trogamid R builds on Evonik’s Trogamid line, which also includes Trogamid eCO, a sustainable option made with up to 100% bio-based feedstock. The initiative demonstrates how manufacturers can reuse production scrap, reduce waste, and maintain access to high-quality, transparent materials.

“Special collaborations with Poliplastic SRL and high-end eyewear manufacturers are tangible examples of how many in the global eyewear industry share Evonik’s vision of a viable circular plastics economy,” says Jennifer Hasselberg, who leads global marketing of Trogamid R, part of Evonik’s High Performance Polymers business line.
