PSEG Long Island Honors Earth Month with Free Trees

Free trees are being distributed by PSEG Long Island as part of its Earth Month initiative to promote environmental sustainability and community resilience. The program emphasizes the ecological value of tree planting, including its role in reducing urban heat, improving air quality, and supporting local biodiversity. Strategically planted trees also contribute to lower energy demand by providing natural shade, which can reduce reliance on air conditioning and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, expanded tree coverage aids in stormwater management by absorbing rainfall and decreasing runoff, helping to protect local waterways across Long Island and the Rockaways.

Implemented in partnership with Suffolk County, the Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity (RISE), the PSEG Foundation, and the Arbor Day Foundation, the initiative will provide 500 residents with trees to encourage long-term environmental stewardship.
