Carbon Removal Projects
Chestnut Carbon Partnered with Verra to Introduce U.S. IFM Carbon Credits
Debra John — April 7, 2026IFM carbon credits are being advanced through a new initiative by Chestnut Carbon in partnership with Verra, supporting more transparent and environmentally focused carbon removal efforts in the United States. Chestnut has "issued over 95,000 carbon credits from its Improved Forest Management projects, which focus on helping forests absorb and store more carbon as they grow."
These projects protect and improve forest ecosystems using sustainable, science-based practices that support biodiversity and long-term environmental health. The credits are only issued for actual carbon removal from tree growth, helping ensure real climate benefits and reducing the risk of overstating impact.
By using Verra’s updated system to clearly identify carbon removal credits, the initiative improves trust and transparency in the carbon market. Overall, it provides companies with a clearer, more reliable way to support nature-based solutions that reduce atmospheric carbon and protect forest ecosystems.
