Lightweight Ebike Drive Systems
Kellys Bicycle Released The MAXXPRO Drive System
Colin Smith — November 19, 2025The MAXXPRO is Kellys Bicycle’s new full-power e-bike drive system introduced for the 2026 collection, engineered to minimise system weight while maintaining high output. The system pairs a Panasonic GXM MAXXPRO motor, co-developed with Kellys and rated at 105 Nm of torque, with carbon-encased batteries offered in 900 Wh, 820 Wh, and 725 Wh capacities; the motor weighs 2.56 kg and each battery is approximately 3.5 kg, yielding a combined drive-unit mass of about 6.1 kg and an energy density up to 257 Wh/kg.
Kellys intends to deploy MAXXPRO across its redesigned RS-series e-bike range, which features five new frame platforms produced in Europe on robotic lines and engineered to be roughly 10% lighter than previous models. The RS-series incorporates an easy battery removal system and targets broad application across the line rather than being limited to flagship models, positioning the MAXXPRO package as a system-level approach to reducing e-bike weight while preserving power and range.
