Mass Timber Projects
Mercer Mass Timber Launched a Conscious Park Project
Debra John — November 19, 2025Mercer Mass Timber is helping build Alabama’s largest mass timber project: the new Cheaha State Park Lodge in Delta. The 26,000-square-foot lodge shows how modern timber construction can support sustainability while reflecting the history and natural character of the region.
The building uses "a mix of cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam beams made by Mercer Mass Timber in Conway, Arkansas: All of the wood comes from FSC-certified Southern Yellow Pine grown in Alabama, a strong and durable material well suited to the climate of the Appalachian foothills." Using local, responsibly sourced timber reduces the project’s environmental impact and supports regional forestry.
Designed by Chambless King Architects, the lodge takes inspiration from the park’s 1930s stone structures. Warm, exposed wood and nature-focused design elements help visitors feel connected to the surrounding forest, highlighting the environmental benefits of mass timber construction.
