Mintz Sustainable Energy is Marking Itself as an Eco Leader
Colin Smith — August 15, 2025Mintz’s Sustainable Energy & Infrastructure Practice has rapidly established itself as a market‐leading adviser on complex renewable‐energy financings and sustainability‐linked infrastructure deals. In the past twelve months, the team completed more than 70 transactions totaling over $4 billion in capital raised for clients across solar, wind, hydrogen, and battery storage projects. Notably, the group acted as lead counsel on the industry’s first sustainability‐linked green bond financing for an offshore wind farm, structuring performance covenants tied directly to greenhouse‐gas reduction targets and securing investment‐grade credit enhancement from public and private underwriters. This milestone cemented Mintz’s role in linking environmental metrics with traditional project finance structures to unlock lower‐cost capital.
Beyond green bonds, the practice has also advised on a series of pioneering offtake and EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) agreements that incorporate net‐zero commitments and circular‐economy provisions. In one landmark transaction, Mintz negotiated a long‐term power purchase agreement for a 150 MW solar array that includes automatic price escalators tied to verified emissions reductions, while another notable engagement saw the firm design an EPC contract for a utility‐scale battery storage facility embedding requirements for end‐of‐life recycling of lithium‐ion modules. By embedding sustainability benchmarks directly into contractual frameworks, Mintz’s team continues to shape the emerging intersections of infrastructure law, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) standards, and innovative financial solutions.
