Cigarette Waste Management Initiatives
The Radisson Blu Greater Noida Invests in Waste Solutions
Colin Smith — August 30, 2025Radisson Blu Greater Noida has installed three designated cigarette disposal units—located at the banquet entrance and main porch—to manage cigarette waste responsibly while maintaining its non-smoking hotel status. Launched in partnership with BuffIndia on 24 May 2025, Project Urja collected 0.45 kg of cigarette waste (equivalent to 1,350 butts) by 8 July 2025, achieving 100 percent recycling into reusable materials. The initiative also upcycled 0.36 kg of microplastics and preserved over 135,000 litres of water resources, demonstrating measurable environmental benefits through waste diversion and resource conservation.
Beyond environmental outcomes, the program generates social impact by supporting employment and fostering sustainable livelihoods. BuffIndia’s model engages 48 unskilled labourers and provides sustainable income for 22 stay-at-home mothers. Through educational outreach and branded repurposed products—such as planters and photo frames made from recycled cigarette waste—the initiative promotes responsible disposal habits among an estimated 507,500 individuals nationwide, reinforcing a circular approach to waste management and community engagement.
