The public garden known as Botanica in Wichita, Kansas, has concluded a significant environmental initiative — dubbed the Reclaimed Water Project. This venture was focused on utilizing treated wastewater for irrigation across its grounds.

The Reclaimed Water Project involved cooperation with municipal authorities to conduct safety and quality assessments on the repurposed water before integrating it into the gardens' maintenance systems. Project outcomes reportedly surpassed initial conservation targets, resulting in the preservation of several million additional gallons of potable water. Leadership from the institution has characterized the effort as a transformative model for sustainable practices in public spaces. This is evident in the words of Dr. Lynette Zimmerman, Executive Director of Botanica: "This project proves what's possible when innovation, collaboration, and conservation intersect. We set out to make Botanica a model of environmental responsibility, and we've achieved something remarkable, not just for our Gardens, but for the entire community."
