Landfill Waste Transformations
Greenview Energy x Sparq Renewables Turn Waste into Natural Gas
Debra John — November 19, 2025Greenview Energy and Sparq Renewables have partnered to turn landfill waste from Reno County into renewable natural gas (RNG), helping reduce pollution while creating a new local energy source. The project will capture methane produced at the landfill—a gas that would otherwise escape into the air—and process it into clean, pipeline-ready fuel. Once treated, the RNG will be delivered through the local utility system to power homes and businesses, supporting a cleaner and more sustainable energy supply.
The joint venture, called 'Meadowlark Renewables,' is one of Kansas’ first rural public-private partnerships focused on converting waste into usable energy. It builds on several years of collaboration with Reno County, which has helped guide planning and permitting.
Meadowlark is now working with Kansas Gas Service and Evergy to coordinate utility connections. After final permits and agreements are secured, construction is expected to finish within 18 months, bringing environmental benefits, new jobs, and steady revenue to the community.
