Expanded Renewable Energy Plants
Char Technologies is Expanding its Thorold South Plant by 2026
Colin Smith — October 15, 2025Char Technologies is advancing an expansion of its Thorold South renewable energy facility with project work progressing toward a targeted 2026 in‑service timeframe. The planned expansion is intended to increase the site’s capacity to process organic feedstocks and produce low‑carbon gas and related renewable energy products, with project activities described as including engineering, permitting, and construction phases scoped to align with regulatory approvals and utility interconnection requirements.
The initiative is presented as a regional investment expected to generate construction and ongoing operational employment, strengthen local waste‑to‑energy infrastructure, and support municipal and provincial decarbonisation objectives by diverting organic material from landfills and producing renewable fuel alternatives. Project partners, community stakeholders, and regulators are reported to be engaged in coordinated planning to manage timelines, environmental permitting, and off‑take or offtake agreements needed to secure full commercial operation.
