Surplus Grocery Discount Platforms
Flashfood Expanded to 100 Kroger Stores Across the Mid-Atlantic
Adam Harrie — April 10, 2026Flashfood expanded its surplus grocery platform to more than 100 Kroger stores in the Mid-Atlantic division, building on a pilot program in Richmond that enabled shoppers to save nearly $700,000 on fresh groceries while diverting over 290,000 pounds of food from landfills.
As part of the expansion, Kroger Health and Flashfood introduced free virtual nutrition classes designed to support meal preparation using discounted fresh ingredients. A 2025 survey found that 70% of Flashfood users reported improved diets after using the platform.
The platform connects retailers with consumers through discounted surplus inventory, supporting both waste reduction and cost savings. The expansion reflects continued adoption of surplus food redistribution systems aimed at improving food access, reducing retail waste, and enhancing efficiency within grocery supply chains.
