Mazda has unveiled the 'Vision X-Coupe,' a concept sports car designed to explore environmentally focused innovations aimed at reducing vehicle-related carbon emissions. Central to the concept is Mazda’s Mobile Carbon Capture technology, which is intended to capture carbon dioxide directly from the exhaust system during normal driving, rather than allowing all emissions to enter the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide produced by internal combustion engines is a major contributor to climate change. By integrating carbon capture technology within the vehicle itself, the Vision X-Coupe demonstrates an approach to mitigating emissions at the source. The system uses zeolite, a porous mineral capable of absorbing carbon dioxide as exhaust gases pass through the capture unit. This enables emissions to be stored instead of released. Mazda has indicated that the captured carbon dioxide could be removed and repurposed for beneficial applications, including supporting plant growth in agricultural or greenhouse environments, or being processed into advanced carbon materials—highlighting how automotive design may contribute to broader carbon reduction and reuse strategies.
