Pacific Harbor Line Taps Remora's Tech to Enhance Sustainability

Pacific Harbor Line, a freight rail operator, has formed a collaborative agreement with the technology firm Remora to implement mobile carbon capture systems on its locomotives. This initiative builds on the railroad's broader, long-term plan to reduce its environmental impact, which has previously included the adoption of lower-emission engine tiers and the use of renewable diesel.
Remora's mobile carbon capture system is designed to isolate carbon dioxide from engine exhaust and subsequently liquefy it for commercial sale to various industries. This creates an additional benefit — the technology not only lowers emissions but also generates a new revenue stream for the rail operator from the sale of the captured gas. Paul Gross, co-founder and CEO of Remora, confirmed this: “We’re building this technology not only to meet environmental goals, but to make it financially compelling for railroads. Pacific Harbor Line’s support and Anacostia’s leadership will be instrumental as we bring carbon capture to freight rail.”
