Bio-Based Skincare Solvents
Bio-based skincare solvents are entering consumer beauty products as Green Science Alliance introduces a moisturizing serum formulated with natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES). These naturally derived liquid mixtures offer an alternative to conventional petroleum-based solvents while helping cosmetic ingredients blend effectively. The Japanese company has adapted its existing green chemistry research into a commercially available skincare product.
NADES can dissolve ingredients that are difficult to incorporate into traditional formulations, while supporting moisture retention and ingredient stability. Unlike volatile solvents, they remain within cosmetic formulations. Green Science Alliance's new serum primarily uses these properties to deliver hydration with a lightweight, non-sticky finish.
For the cosmetics industry, this development demonstrates how alternative solvent technologies can support product formulation and reduce dependence on conventional chemical ingredients. Green Science Alliance also plans to expand its skincare offerings with serums containing active compounds sourced from plants and biomass.
