Carbon Removal Standards Frameworks
Carbon180 Launched Its CORE Carbon Removal Standards Framework
Adam Harrie — April 22, 2026Carbon180 unveiled the 'CORE Carbon Removal Framework,' a set of carbon removal standards that establish shared expectations for how projects engage affected communities and demonstrate measurable, lasting results. The framework addresses a growing gap, with nearly $12 billion flowing into the sector and dozens of projects breaking ground, yet no common rules exist for accountability or community involvement.
Eight values and 11 operational practices address aspects such as community decision-making authority, co-designed local benefits, comprehensive CO₂ accounting for all project activities and enforceable binding mechanisms. The framework also includes a resource hub with practical templates and studies for developers, funders and community members.
Carbon180 shows that setting transparent, community-focused standards can help build the trust required for the industry to operate responsibly at a larger scale.
