Rural Area Biomass Projects

The CELISE Project Aims to Develop Sustainable Bioeconomy Solutions

The CELISE Project is a Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska‑Curie‑funded research and innovation initiative coordinated by the University of Cantabria that develops sustainable bioeconomy solutions for rural and vulnerable areas by valorising local biomass residues into energy, materials, and value‑added products; the programme engages 24 partner institutions across Europe and Latin America and combines interdisciplinary research with capacity‑building activities and mobility exchanges to support SME development and local entrepreneurship.

The project emphasises participatory methodologies that integrate technical, economic, environmental, and social assessment frameworks to ensure solutions are context‑appropriate and socially accepted, and it documents applied pilots, community engagement events, and knowledge‑transfer practices intended to strengthen rural livelihoods, reduce waste, and stimulate local green value chains through collaborative research and stakeholder dialogue.
